Norfolk Island attracts a regular and ever growing crowd from New Zealand and Australia of jazz fans looking for a festival with a difference. Music fests on Norfolk are up close and personal, visitors have the opportunity to mix and mingle with headliners and for jazz they relish kicking off Summer in style in the South Pacific.

You could say it’s not only the visitors that are romanced by the Norfolk Island factor. Over the years the Norfolk Island jazz festival has attracted top name artists and 2014 is no different.

This year’s festival held 30 November - 4 December will feature headliner Caviar, Norfolk Island’s own Rick Robertson, The Jazz Factory, The Andrew London Trio, Di Bird, Steve Brien, Briana Cowlishaw and guest appearance by Ingrid James.

The Jazz Factory draws its inspiration from an earlier era of love songs, rip roaring jazz and great fun times. If you like Louis Armstrong, Irving Berlin and Duke Ellington, you will love this band! Two of the band members sing so you won't go short of some great vocals. One of the great delights of this band is the clean sound and harmonic balance achieved by the musician's compatibility, no doubt partially as a result of the many gigs played together.

Rick Robertson is passionate about his Pitcairn and Norfolk Island roots.  Playing Trumpet in the Norfolk Island Boys Brass Band was Rick’s introduction to playing music. The saxophone took over a few years later and a decade of playing with bands in New Zealand was followed by study at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and then another decade recording and touring internationally with award winning band dig (directions in groove). Rick has recently written and performed Mutiny Music, an entire show based on the Pitcairn Island saga, with his band Baecastuff.
