The largest kids' TRYathlon in the world kicked off its 2014 events calendar in Sydney on Friday, 17th January. Running through to May 2014, the event will see over 30,000 participants and their families converge at 11 different events across Australia. With events this size you can expect lots of fun, controlled chaos and plenty of rubbish.

This year an official waste and recycling education partner has been brought on board to encourage the next generation to TRYrecycling. Veolia Environnement Australia is joining with the Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon to promote recycling as a healthy lifestyle choice. By encouraging children and their parents to TRYrecycling at the TRYathlon events and at home the campaign aims to inspire families to participate in environmentally-friendly habits and take responsibility for the impact of their actions.

The TRYrecycling team will be on hand at each event to help kids make sure their rubbish is going in the right bin. The campaign looks to increase understanding and awareness around what can be recycled to reduce the waste sent to landfill at the events and at home.

“Veolia is proud to be the official waste and recycling partner for the TRYathlon. We are looking forward to all the events around Australia with many of our employees and their children taking part,” said Doug Dean, CEO of Veolia Environnement Australia.

“This partnership gives us the opportunity to actively engage with an event that promotes positive outcomes through participation – to say it’s much more fun to get involved than to just sit and watch from the sidelines.”

With Australians currently one of the highest waste producers in the world, education is crucial to get the next generation on board to reduce, re-use and recycle their waste.
“Participating makes a big difference when it comes to reducing waste,” said Dean.

A website,, has been launched with fun games for kids and information for parents about how they can get involved at the events and how to change their lifestyle at home to get the whole family to TRYrecycling.
