Rilka Warbanoff, loved by Victorians as the voice of culinary culture on ABC 774 Melbourne, has come home. This much-loved flamboyant foodie has made the historic village of Hahndorf her home and launched a new business.

Rilka's Real Food and Rilka's Cooking School, launched this month, is operating out of a newly- renovated barn behind Rilka's Adelaide Hills home, which she shares with her partner Barry.

Rilka, who grew up in Adelaide and moved to Melbourne in the mid 1990s, has enjoyed a successful entrepreneurial career. She is known for her authentic East European recipes, many of which grace the pages of her book 'Rilka's Feasts', published by Harper Collins in 2012.

Her childhood was all about food, having grown up in a Bulgarian family, heavily influenced by her mother and grandmother. Entertaining and sharing her table brings her great joy. She is also known for her famous shoe collection and intense love of fashion, being named in the media as one of Melbourne's most stylish women over the years.

Since writing her book, she has become increasingly aware of the many people preferring to eat a healthier range of food products. More than 2 million Australians, including adults and children, have moved away from gluten in their diets, as well as wheat, added sugar, yeast and preservatives.

“My passion for a healthy and real lifestyle, spurred me on to create a range of foods under the Rilka’s Real Food label, that taste great and eliminate gluten, wheat, yeast, sugar and preservatives. Our range includes breads, cakes and bites and are sold frozen so that preservatives are not required," said Rilka.

Rilka's Cooking School is about real food and real people. Participants are encouraged to be hands on, have fun and share stories while learning simple cooking techniques. It is then time to sit down and share a meal together and enjoy beautiful wines from the Adelaide Hills.

Rilka enjoys cooking every day and sharing her table. “So many people are intimidated by cooking and feel they need a huge kitchen, fancy utensils and machines to make even the basics. I help take the fear out so they can enjoy making the simple things in life, like creamy mash potatoes and roasts with a few spices thrown in! Our Cooking School only uses gluten free ingredients and fresh regional produce, along with showcasing a variety of our products which are manufactured on-site,” said Rilka.

Cooking Schools are held in two sessions, either for lunch or dinner, and include the following:

  • Hosted tutored experience by Rilka Warbanoff

  • Full three course meal and appetisers

  • Adelaide Hills wines

  • Rilka’s Real Food Apron

  • Signed copy of Rilka’s Feasts
    The investment per participant is $165.00 + GST, with a maximum booking of ten people.

    A born entertainer, Rilka also organises fully catered lunches and dinners, another fantastic option for people looking for somewhere different to enjoy fine food, wine and friends in the Adelaide Hills.
