Interactive media association AIMIA has partnered with the Adelaide Advertiser and South Australian Film Corporation to award the stars of the digital media industry in the inaugural South Australian Interactive Media Excellence Awards (SAimX), dubbed “the sexiest awards in town”.
Four winners and seven highly commended entries showed that digital media is no longer just a supporting act but a critical element in business success today.
News Ltd Managing Director Ish Davies launched the awards ceremony, which was attended by Leader of the Opposition Stephen Marshall.
The Advertiser's Customer Solutions Manager, Guy Turner, said that the digital community had matured and diversified, “indelibly connecting and empowering the growth of South Australian business across all sectors”.
“Digital is the lifeblood of the modern entrepreneur,” Mr Turner said. “It is the idea, the collaboration, the product, the pitch and the sales avenue. “
Adelaide has been the crucible for national entrepreneurship programs such as MEGA and ANZ Innovyz Start, but the SAiMX awards recognise the world-class work being done by mature digital businesses.
AIMIA committee member and chair of the judging panel Leila Henderson said that the judging criteria focused on the results – customer metrics and testimonials – as well as outstanding innovation and execution. The winners include both consumer and business applications across web, mobile and gaming platforms.
The winning entries range from an augmented reality children’s pop-up book (Two Left Feet), to a mobile electrical product guide for tradies (Clipsal iCat), to a mobile application that allows health insurance members to submit a claim directly through their smart phones (Health Partners Mobile Claiming), and a portal that improves accessibility to science education (e-Science).
Entries that were highly commended include an application that allows retailers to track shoppers (Virtual Shopper), a highly innovative winery website (Mollydooker), a housing inspection application (WA Department of Housing Inspection), an immensely popular game (Monster Truck Destruction), a music sharing service (Soundpond.net) and a sports team management application (iSports).
