Almost all Australian workers have been lied to by their boss. This alarming finding was released this week by specialist corporate training company - Happening People (

Happening People conducted an online survey of almost 1400 people as part of a larger strategy to gain information on leadership which underpins the work they do as corporate training specialists with business managers and leaders in Australia.

Managing Director, Samuel Day of corporate training specialists Happening People believes ‘The results of this survey are quite astonishing and a sad indictment on managers and leaders in this country. Lying to employees has a direct impact on team trust, productivity, ethical behaviour, employee turnover and employee engagement”.
A survey conducted by Fast Company in 2005 revealed 34.2% of survey participants would walk away from their job if they were lied to by their manager this translates into over one third of the workforce.

“The most common reasons managers lie is they are ill equipped to manage difficult and often delicate situations in the workplace. Our leadership training focuses on empowering managers and leaders to communicate with honesty by giving them tools to deal with these situations.”  Said Mr Day

The survey is the focal point of this week’s coveted Top 5 on “Be Seen as a Leader Not a Liar”.  The top 5 include; 1.Take Responsibility  2. Be Honest with Your Feedback,  3. Communicate All Changes No Matter How Unwelcome4. Ask Staff to Appraise You Too, 5.  Pay Your Staff Consistently. (
