In recognition of the Philippines as the location of the first “next generation” mid-scale Park Inn brand to be established in Asia Pacific, the photo competition aimed to showcase the Filipino colors, flavors, culture, traditions and various destinations from around the country. This social media initiative, which used Facebook as a platform, was adapted from the hotel’s Adding Color to Life brand service philosophy.
Six finalists were chosen out of the 956 entries submitted within the period of April 9 to June 11, 2013. While majority of the participants came from the Philippines, and there was also a percentage generated from New Zealand, Japan, India, and Australia. The entries were submitted to the Carlson Rezidor Hotels regional office in Singapore, and were judged on a range of criteria, including creativity, originality and the extent to which the photos and the written description provided/uploaded reflect the values of the Park Inn brand.
Mr. Tomas Jose Iñigo’s photo of a female dancer at the Kadayawan Festival was awarded first prize. He described the celebration as the King of all Festivals, a venue which calls together photographers from all over the globe. As grand prize, Mr. Iñigo will be receiving a gift certificate for a 3 night stay in a Junior Suite at Park Inn by Radisson Davao hotel near SM Lanang Premier, inclusive of buffet breakfast for 2, transfers from and to Davao International Airport, and dinner for 2 (to the value of P1,000 per person) at RBG.
Mr. Paul Malicki’s photo of a starfish by the beach was awarded second. In his caption he wrote, “There's nothing better than a weekend chill-out at the pristine Philippine sea side. It's then when you realize that it’s more colorful in the Philippines.” Mr. Malicki will be receiving a gift certificate for an overnight stay in a Standard Room, inclusive of breakfast for two.
Third place is given to Ms. Carmela Rabe for her photo of the Malinaw Spring in Lucban, Quezon. For her, the the picture illustrates how “families bond together.” Her prize is a gift certificate for lunch or dinner for two at RBG, up to the value of P1,000.00 per person.

This contest is a great opportunity for Filipinos to show the world why it’s more fun and colorful in the Philippines. Surprisingly, we were able to get a wider reach for this campaign with support coming from different parts of Asia. It is important to note that this competition was not made exclusive to professional photographers. This competition was open to all and you’d be surprised to see the remarkable images we received which were taken only with the aid of mobile phones.”
