The Violin Competition is offered to all violinists younger than 18 and will be held from 22nd to 24th November 2013. Contestants will perform a Bach Solo Sonata along with the first movement of a Mozart Concerto facing a panel of judges that includes Spiros Rantos. Six contestants will be selected for the finals, and the winner will perform the complete Mozart concerto in a publicĀ  concert with Mr John Curro conducting the orchestra on Sunday afternoon at the Old Museum.

Dietrich Lasa, Director of Animato Strings and founder of the International Violin Competition is delighted to donate to the winner of this competition a German hand crafted Guarneri Replica violin worth $20 000, made by Konrad Kohlert who will be travelling to Brisbane from Germany to present the winner with this violin. Second and Third place getters shall receive $3000 and $1000 vouchers to spend in store at Animato Strings.

This event will happen from 22nd to 24th November 2013 at the Old Museum Building in Brisbane, finishing in a public concert at 2pm.

Dietrich Lasa on his youtube video with regards to the competition says that the inspiration for the competition should be one of a joyous spirit rather than one that is founded upon a fear of losing a competition. The first prize winner will play a Mozart concerto with all the remaining contestants in a mood of 'making good music together' - as suggested by Dietrich Lasa - under the baton of John Curro in a public concert.
