Adelaide-based school services company MGM Wireless is delighted to announce the appointment of former Federal Education Minister John Dawkins AO as non-executive Director.
Welcoming Mr Dawkins to the board, MGM Wireless CEO and co-founder Mr Mark Fortunatow said: "John not only brings his deep experience in education policy to the MGM board, he brings over 12 years' experience in corporate governance as a director of both unlisted and listed companies.
"For the past three years, John has provided sage advice to our company and has acted as a much-valued mentor during a period of strong and consistent growth."
MGM Wireless now has a market capitalisation of $28m, sales in excess of $2.2m and operations in four countries. Earlier this year, the company was named `Sole Preferred Tenderer' by the WA Education Department for the supply of its messageyou(TM) school-parent communication solution to 800 West Australian government schools.
"This is an appropriate time to bolster our leadership and board as we take on global markets, while at the same time embarking on a renewed growth phase in the Australian market," said Mr Fortunatow.
"MGM Wireless and messageyou are clear market leaders in school to parent SMS communication and attendance monitoring among government schools. We are now seeing enormous opportunity opening up in Australian private schools and in the government primary school market. School communities want the best for their children. They want increased care, increased safety, and better communication...and our leading-edge offering delivers on all of these."
Hon John S Dawkins AO
Mr Dawkins served for 11 years in the Federal Government as Treasurer and Minister for Employment, Education and Training among other posts.
Following his retirement from politics in 1994, he commenced building a career in business as a strategic advisor and board member. For nine years he was chairman of Elders Rural Bank and for nearly 10 years served on the board of Sealcorp Holdings, now Asgard Wealth Solutions.
His current appointments include Chairman of Retail Energy Market Company and Integrated Legal Holdings and Director of Genetic Technologies and Government Relations Australia.
He has maintained his interest in education policy, participating in education policy reviews for the World Bank and the OECD in five countries, including Ireland and Malaysia. In 2001 he undertook a review of Education Adelaide for the SA Government.
As well as holding a degree in economics, he has been awarded honorary doctorates from the University of South Australia and Queensland University of Technology.
