Ben Voogd of Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel Recognized as "Best of the Best"

On one occasion a guest called the front desk for an ambulance to take her husband, who was having a heart attack, to the hospital. The wife stayed with her husband in the hospital for more than a week, during which Voogd visited them after his shift. "I just wanted to provide them with a friendly face," he says. "It can be overwhelming to be in a foreign country while having such health concerns."
When he's not helping guests, Voogd is one himself. Through travel he sees how other Marriott associates take care of their guests and recommends other concierges do the same. Voogd has been able to travel to every country in Europe and the U.S. with his associate discount, and that exposure to other cultures is part of what he says makes him a successful concierge.
