Old rivals Dear Demi and Gondokoro will renew rivalries in the Group 1 Queensland Oaks on Saturday, the feature race of the weekend as the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival moves to Eagle Farm Racecourse.

The pair have become familiar foes this year, meeting five times already, and will have the filllies’ classic at Eagle Farm to themselves if the betting markets are correct ahead of the pick of the races on Ladies Day.

Dear Demi, already a Group 1 winner having took the Crown Oaks last spring, and Gondokoro have locked horns all year including when second and third respectively in the Australian Oaks at Randwick and first and second respectively in the Group 3 Doomben Roses at Doomben two weeks ago.

Dear Demi has run since that victory in the traditional lead-up race to the Queensland Oaks, taking on the boys in the Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes last weekend in a run that trainer Clarry Connors believes will have put her in perfect shape to take out Saturday’s Group 1 race.

The only time Gondokoro has finished ahead of Dear Demi in their previous five clashes was when she was one place better in fourth in the Vinery Stud Stakes in the lead-up to the Australian Oaks.

Miss Zenella, Express Power, Just As Cosmic and Vaquera are other likely runners at Eagle Farm on Saturday. will have all the build-up covered with news from the key connections and the all-important barrier draw, the lowdown on the field and the best value tips and selections for the big Group 1 race.
