Guests at this year's Burlesque Ball, which sets out on its Australian Tour at Sydney's Luna Park on Saturday Feb 20, are in for a real treat.

Organiser Jac Bowie came home from a four-day whirlwind tour of Paris and Stuttgart inspired by cabaret at the legendary Moulin Rouge, Lido, Crazy Horse and Friedrichsbau Variete.

"Guests at The Burlesque Ball will see a definite change in this year's show," Jac says. "It was obviously going to be a different year with Julie Atlas Muz as our headliner, she is known to push the boundaries between burlesque and performance art, so there was always going to be a shift from the all classic shows of the past.

"But what I can now say is that guests will be treated to far more than a 2D experience this year. More emphasis has been placed on videos, lights and effects, and guests will also notice we cover both classic and contemporary."

Jac has been working hard with all of the performers and MC Ophelia Bitz to ensure that overall vision of the show is realised.

"You could call it a story about the evolution of Burlesque," Jac says. "Not only are the acts international, but also the themes. One moment you are in Paris, the next New York, the next somewhere in the Middle East. It truly will be a feast for the senses.

A Feature Event of Sydney Mardi Gras 2010, The Burlesque Ball Australian Tour 2010 sets off on Saturday, 20 February in Sydney, travels to Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, finishing in Adelaide on 6 March.

The Burlesque Ball

The Burlesque Ball was born from a concept in 2005. The event coincided with the rise in popularity of Burlesque in Australia, and was the first event of its kind to showcase Burlesque on such a grand scale. Many have tried to emulate and imitate its success with similar concepts, but each year The Burlesque Ball remains the “golden mile” for performers and the most popular choice for audiences.

Lavish costume design, elaborate props and music – The Burlesque Ball is everything you want Burlesque to be. This event only showcases the high end performers.

Jac Bowie produced the event after discovering that although Burlesque was experiencing an underground movement, there were no events that focused on big props, expensive and ornate costumes – what you associate Burlesque to be when you think of the major international stars (Dita Von Teese, Catherine D’Lish, Sally Rand, etc) and had a more formal vibe that appealed to guests of all ages and walks of life.

Since its humble beginnings, The Burlesque Ball has grown into a huge Burlesque spectacular, always showcasing Australia’s leading acts and now internationally renowned as the biggest and most sophisticated event on the Australian Burlesque calendar.
