This April, dog and animal lovers alike will descend on Melbourne Showgrounds to break some world records - all in the name of promoting animal welfare.

Australians have the highest ratio of pet ownership in the world - more than one in three households own a pet. Many of these owners will be encouraged to attend the World Record Dogs event on Sunday 28th April 2013 to raise much needed funds for the Lort Smith Animal Hospital.

The Lort Smith Animal Hospital is part of the Animal Welfare League and provides subsidized vet services to financially burdened owners. It also provides re-homing and fostering services to unwanted pets.

Donor's Relations Manager from Lort Smith Animal Hospital Jessie McGuire is 'super excited' about the World Record Dogs event where she and her fellow staff will promote the vital work of LSAH and to raise much need funds for its services.

Among the records set to be broken at the event are - i) The Largest Dog Obedience Class, ii) Most Dogs With Bandanas, iii) The Biggest Dog Massage Session and for the humans that want to be more like dogs, there is a challenge to have the most people face-painted like as dogs!

The event will also collect money for other animal welfare groups - $5 from every entry ticket sold goes to the participant's favorite animal welfare exhibitor at the event. Other animal welfare groups attending the event include Oscar's Law, The Lost Dogs Home,  Geelong Animal Welfare Society and many other local and international animal rescue groups.

People are encouraged to bring their dogs (they enter for free!) and they will need to buy tickets online before the event at Tickets are $19 and kids under 12 enter for free. They will be lots of freebies, entertainment and pet industry exhibitors present.

And if a few world records are smashed...all participants will get world record certificates! And they are sure to go home happy in the knowledge they've helped many hard-working animal welfare groups.
