South Australian running enthusiasts are set to benefit from the state’s newest and exciting community fitness event as the inaugural Flinders University Run Adelaide races into Adelaide in less than three months.

Following in the footsteps of the ongoing success of Run Melbourne, the event is set to take over the streets of Adelaide on Sunday 14th April 2013 as thousands join forces for the 5km, 10km and half-marathon race through the city’s most iconic surrounds.

Raising important awareness and funds for key charity partner Little Heroes Foundation, Flinders University Run Adelaide Race Director Terry O’Halloran has also emphasised how Adelaide will benefit from a new and refreshed running event.

“It’s an exciting time for South Australians as the very first Flinders University Run Adelaide event rolls into town, allowing fitness enthusiasts the choice of three long-distance events to suit their own running capabilities and personal goals, all staged throughout some of the finest scenery that the city has to offer.”

“Not only will each runner have the chance to perform to their optimum level with the specially designed course, they can look forward to being surrounded by like-minded individuals for a day of fun and enjoyment, all in the name of raising crucial funds for our special charity partner, Little Heroes Foundation,” commented Terry.

Runners and walkers in the inaugural event will start on King William Street alongside Adelaide Oval, each weaving through the city streets, parklands and riverbanks on their respective 5km, 10km or half-marathon (21.1km) routes, crossing the finish line in spectacular fashion in Elder Park.

“Nothing brings a city to life like a major running event which is what we’re most looking forward to sharing with the city of Adelaide on the 14th April. Regardless of ability it’s the perfect chance for all to become involved, even the kids with our dedicated 2km Little Heroes Kids Run taking place on race day” said Terry, who possesses over 20 years’ experience in directing similar iconic running races across the country.

South Australian Flinders University Run Adelaide ambassador and Olympic marathon runner Jess Trengove, has also thrown her support behind the event for a cause she feels so passionately about.

“Running is a huge part of my life, and as a Little Heroes Foundation ambassador, I am excited to combine the two passions together. To run throughout the city streets of my home town supporting children with serious illness will be a unique opportunity, and I encourage the Adelaide community to get involved in Run Adelaide supporting this great initiative,” said Jess.

Other high profile South Australian ambassadors for the Flinders University Run Adelaide and Little Heroes Foundation include Adelaide Crows Captain Nathan van Berlo, plus Adelaide Thunderbirds Captain Natalie von Bertouch who are both encouraging South Australians to sign up to achieve their fitness goals for an important cause.
