Australian technical room solution provider makes inroads into the utilities sector with upgrade of key mission-critical network control room.

Operator of the South Australian electricity distribution network, SA Power Networks, is the latest organisation to benefit from the expertise of a local company which is leading the world in the design, development and integration of control rooms which deftly balance the human element with the latest in audio-visual technology and technical furniture design.

Jumbo Vision International Pty Ltd has installed control room infrastructure for customers across a range of industries, from oil, gas and mining, with the Australian owned company now making inroads into the utilities sector with the completion of a major control room design and installation project for South Australia’s electricity distributor.

Described by Jumbo Vision as one of the more complex undertakings they have been involved with, entailing the upgrading of existing mission-critical facilities, the project required the installation of 14 new custom built operator desks, supplied by leading technical furniture manufacturer Evans Consoles. The Canadian-based company counts NASA, Shell and BHP Australia among its clients, with Jumbo Vision operating as their Australian manufacturing representative through the recently launched Control Room Solutions arm of the company.

Also installed during the project were over 40 monitor mounts, specially customised for SA Power Networks’ requirements. One solution included the motorisation of a triple-screen array for all 14 consoles. More than 80 Samsung MDX230 monitors were supplied and installed, and all console cabling, including power, data and video, was supplied and integrated by Jumbo Vision.

Said Jumbo Vision General Manager Lena Kimenkowski, “We are very proud to have been able to work closely with SA Power Networks through the entire project, from the early stages of the design process right through to the implementation of the upgrade for their Network Operations Centre.”

It has been a year of big wins and projects across industries for Jumbo Vision, including a contract to design and install control room infrastructure for Wheatstone, a natural gas mining project in Western Australia’s Pilbara region which is expected to result in the creation of around 6,500 new jobs during peak construction.

Said Ms Kimenkowski, “We see ourselves as part of the development process, with the SA Power Networks project being a great endorsement of our methodologies as well as our products. It also demonstrates our readiness to engage with more organisations in both SA and the rest of Australia across a range of utility segments, including water, gas, traffic and more.”
