To commemorate the first anniversary of the Black Saturday bushfires, events are planned in Gisborne and Kyneton on Sunday, 7 February 2010.

In Gisborne, a tree planting and plaque unveiling will take place at the Gisborne Lion’s Park, Aitken Street (opposite Gisborne Aquatic Centre) at 2pm.

The tree has been donated by local business, Gisborne Collision Centre and the plaque has been provided by Macedon Ranges Shire Council, in partnership with Wooling Hill Memorial Garden Estate.

Macedon Ranges Shire Council’s Mayor, Rob Guthrie will be joined by representatives from local emergency services, including the Bullengarook, Gisborne and Macedon CFA, and the Gisborne SES.

In Kyneton, a Bushfire Memorial Wall Mural will be unveiled at the Kyneton Town Hall, Hutton St at 11am.

Created by local artist Kathryn Portelli, the mural depicts community connectivity and support for those affected by the fires. It was made possible following donations of patterned china, colourful crockery, ceramic tiles and porcelain ornaments – items which represent a ‘home’.
