Dubai, UAE -- Australian Business Woman, Colette Griplas, Wins Ambition Award at the UAE's Emirates Woman Awards 2012 for SpecsAddict.

Colette Griplas, Founder of Australia's very own SpecsAddict.com - a fashion forward, novel, affordable eyewear brand - has put Australia firmly on the UAE's map as she was announced as the winner of a prestigious Emirates Woman of the Year Award 2012. Taking home the Ambition Award, sponsored by UAE bank ADCB, this award is now in its fourth year and aims to reward ambitious, driven women across the Emirates.

UAE's Emirates Woman Awards 2012The Emirates Woman of the Year Awards has been hailed as the UAE's premier business awards for women entrepreneurs. They honour the accomplishments of aspiring business women, via the projects they initiated or the companies they run. The awards are designed to help women entrepreneurs strengthen their vision, build their strategy and take their businesses to the next stage of development.

"I'm truly honoured to receive this year's ADCB Ambition Award', commented Colettte Griplas. "It is remarkable that my business, SpecsAddict, has not only found a customer base in the UAE in such a short period of time, but that it successfully turned a rather ordinary commercial transaction into a genuinely engaging brand dialogue with UAE consumers, and that the judges recognised its relevance and potential."
For Griplas, being a successful entrepreneur is a mixture of good ideas, passion and ambition, but also having the tools and resources to succeed.
"This recognition has certainly given me the confidence and the resources I needed to go forward with my business", added Griplas.
Australian Colette Griplas, a lawyer by profession, launched the eyewear brand Specs Addict in 2012.
"I've always loved eyewear and regarded it as a fashion accessory, but could never afford to purchase multiple pairs for work and play," explained Griplas about her impetus for starting Specs Addict.
Providing affordable, creative, artisanal quality, fashion forward, affordable eyewear, Specsaddict.com integrates innovative technology so consumers can try on glasses using their own photo or webcam on a virtual mirror. The pictures can then be shared on social media platforms for feedback from friends. Providing free prescription lenses and free worldwide delivery, the site also donates a portion of the profits to a village school in Sri Lanka.

The UAE's ADCB Ambition Award shortlist comprised exceptional and visionary self-starters, whose individual projects are as exciting as they are wide ranging. They have all had the courage to change their lives, follow their dreams and make an impact on the UAE's future. The award, which included a monetary prize of US $10,000, was presented at the awards ceremony held on Sunday 25th November at The Armani Hotel in Dubai.
