Nauru’s local Telecommunications provider, CenpacNet Inc. has appointed Pactel International to establish a communication infrastructure for the refugees in Australian immigration facilities. Within a lead-time of one week, Pactel International designed and commissioned a network which now provides internet and VoIP access to the first group of asylum seekers who arrived to the island earlier this month.

The network is based on the IS-18 C-Band Platform and is highly-scalable to cater for 1500 people predicted to house the detention facilities, once fully operational. Pactel’ QoS technology allows for efficient allocation of bandwidth and high quality call experience for the end users.

Andrew Taylor, CEO at Pactel International said: “Access to communication facilities that enable refugees to communicate with their families and request for assistance has become a basic need in current circumstances. We will ensure our service satisfies this need”.

Rudolph Garoa, Manager at CenpacNet Inc. said: “We chose Pactel International due to their extensive experience and high accountability in the Pacific Region. They have met all our expectations in providing a fast and reliable service with responsive 24/7 network support”.
