JUST Improvise is celebrating Father’s Day with a special Theatresports show at the Mount Lawley Bowling Club on September 2.

With improv rookies and veterans battling it out for the coveted WA Theatresports Championship Cup, it’s a family-friendly show as they act out scenes and scenarios on the spot, inspired by audience suggestions.

“Our special Father's Day show will give audiences the opportunity to do something really unique together on the day,” Just Improvise creative director and Theatresports national champion Glenn Hall said.

“We’ve got a great Father’s Day planned for you: from the pre-show lawn bowls and sausage sizzle, right through to the gift of home-made caramel fudge for all dads at the show – how can you top that?"

Under the creative direction of Hall, Just Improvise has been producing live scripted and unscripted theatre to popular and critical acclaim since 2000, including Theatresports.

Regarded as one of Australia’s leading improvisers, he has been performing for the past 25 years and has appeared in the hit shows Spontaneous Broadway and Impro Melbourne’s Celebrity Theatresports at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and is a national and state Theatresports champion.

The father of five-year-old Lysander and WA Academy of Performing Arts improv lecturer is also heading to Melbourne’s “The Classic” Impro Festival in late September as a guest performer and workshop facilitator.

"We're really proud that Theatresports provides a chance for the whole family to head out to catch some theatre together,” Hall said.

“We've had different generations from the same family attending our shows and it goes to show there is something Theatresports and live improvised theatre has that really resonates with those from five to 95 years old.

“The family on stage and the families in the audience form a community – deep down everyone desires to be a part of something larger than themselves.”

On September 2, improv performers taking the stage include Glenn Hall, Tegan Mulvany, Chris Bedding, Jessica Messenger, Martyn Churcher, Melanie Bennett, Braye Dial, Chris Ratcliffe, Ann-Marie Biagoni, Hannah Rice, Lance Magnus, Zac Hall, Paris Burns and Callon Leam.

Neil Barnard is MC and they are all joined by the toe-tapping live improvising house band The Cross-Eyed Cats.
