A Hollywood hairstylist to the stars was so concerned about the chemicals leading hair care companies use in their products he decided to create his own range.

These ultra-organic hair and skin care products are now available in Australia for the first time.

Founder of Giovanni Cosmetics, Arthur Giovanni, was a leading hair stylist and a Beverly Hills salon owner who strived to seek out pure, organic alternatives to the chemical laden products almost every salon uses.

His ‘On Sunset’ salon attracted some of the most influential people in Southern California and he began developing natural hair care products in the late 1970s to meet the needs of his celebrity clientele.

His quest led to a partnership with Dr John Weaver, a chemist and pioneer in the use of natural essences to develop a new company with newer formulas.

Giovanni Cosmetics uses formulas that incorporate vitamins, herbs, minerals, proteins, nutrients and the purest of essential and organic oils, which all achieve the same, if not better results than leading salon products.

Arthur’s son James Guidotti now oversees the company and says Giovanni Hair Care is a complete organic range that offers salon quality without the salon chemicals.

“The range includes everything you would find in a salon - shampoos, conditioners, treatments, stylers and finishers that are completely organic, without compromising exceptional salon performance,” Mr Guidotti says.

“Our company was one of the first in America to reject animal testing, incorporate no animal by-products, feature biodegradable formulas and use ripe-harvested, certified organic ingredients.

“Giovanni’s eco chic hair care line has been praised worldwide with a great popularity throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia.

“Its with great pleasure that we have now released the product in Australia.”

A recent study at the University of Georgia Medical College found that sulfates, a product widely used in shampoos and conditioners, penetrated into the eyes as well as brain, heart, liver, showed long-term retention in the tissues.

The study specifically found that sulfates penetrated in young children's eyes prevented them from developing properly and caused cataracts to develop in adults.

Mr Guidotti says the dangers of generic hair and skin care products are the key reason behind his father’s pursuit in creating an organic alternative.

“The risks of using chemical-based products on your hair and skin have been well known for a long time, but few people seek out ways to prevent this harm,” Mr Guidotti says.

“Parents especially should be very concerned about the impacts that long term use of these products will have on their children as they age.

“It is a common belief among people that natural products don’t achieve the same results as chemical-based products.

“On the contrary, natural products nourish and replenish hair more because they lack the harsh sulfates that are causing serious damage over time.”

The harsh sulfates found in generic shampoos, conditioners and other hair products can cause hair loss by attacking the follicle – they are used for cleaning because of their corrosive properties.

The same sulfates in hair products are also found in garage floor cleaners and engine degreasers.

The standard chemical-based skin care products also contain these sulfates that dry your skin by stripping the protective lipids from the surface so it can't effectively regulate moisture.

Additionally, it is already well known that using these sulfate products finds you absorbing large amounts of cancer-causing carcinogenics through the skin and into the body.

Giovanni Cosmetics are committed to creating only the purest formulations that are 100 per cent free of harsh sulfates, 100 per cent vegetarian, with 100 per cent recyclable packaging and 100 per cent biodegradable formulas.
