Adelaide, July 16, 2012 - The NetSpot Innovation Fund 2013 is now open for applications. NetSpot launched its Innovation Fund in 2011 to address the challenges that the Tertiary Education in Australasia is facing in relation to sustainability of eLearning innovations.
In 2012 NetSpot funded four projects: Electronic Assessment Management Project - Flinders University, Analytics block to identify students at risk of disengaging - Monash University, A Moodle plugin to detect computer programming code similarities for use in an educative context - Monash University, Lightwork Online - Massey University (NZ). The outcomes of these highly successful projects will be available towards the end of 2012. Providing sustainability for the creation of innovative services or products in the eLearning space results in an array of education technology tools that have been documented to be effective for enhanced functionality in Moodle.
The NetSpot Innovation Fund is well positioned in working with Moodle HQ to give the successful* innovation projects a better chance for sustainability. NetSpot’s contribution is key to the initial development of the projects’ methodology, specification review and advice, quality assurance, project management and liaison with Moodle HQ.

This year’s funding model is developed as a "safe harbour" model for cash co-investment and/ or in-kind contribution. Grant recipients are chosen by a selection panel made up from key bodies from Higher Education members of ascilite, HERDSA, ODLAA, ACODE and CADAD.
The application form can be downloaded online from the NetSpot website ( Applications must be lodged by 5:00 pm EST on 31/08/2012 via email to [email protected]

NetSpot’s Managing Director, Allan Christie greatly values this kind of collaboration between industry and education:
“eLearning has been a passion of mine for 25 years and I’m delighted that NetSpot is able to continue to support innovations in the Higher Education setting that will provide sustainable benefits for all.”

* Please note: Securing a NetSpot Innovation Fund Project does not promise or ensure your code will be included in Moodle. While NetSpot can provide you with the advice and skills needed to develop code to the required standards and in line with Moodle HQ’s requirements, only Moodle HQ can make the decision to include the new code and/ or features.
