Wendys has released a new ice cream flavour which will help to fund support programs for young Australians living with cancer – one scoop at a time.

Part proceeds from every scoop of Three Wishes, a delicious twist on the popular old favourite Neapolitan, will be donated to CanTeen – the national support organisation for 12-24 year-olds living with cancer.

The specially developed flavour, made with creamy swirls of strawberry, chocolate and vanilla, will be available from today in all Wendys stores across the country.

“In 2011 Wendys signed up as one of CanTeen’s major national partners, committing to contributing $150,000 to the organisation every year for three years,” said Wendys CEO Rob McKay.

“The launch of Three Wishes is one of many initiatives the Wendys network will promote and support to ensure this commitment is met.

“We’re enormously excited to launch this product and the feedback from our franchisees has been overwhelmingly positive. They love the idea of being able to support the work of CanTeen, particulalry given we see so many young people in our business – on both sides of the counter.

“With $2 from the sale of every box of Wendys Three Wishes ice cream donated to CanTeen, there’s never been a better time to treat yourself; it’s a treat to make you feel seriously good!”

Wendys has also launched two new Three Wishes ice cream cakes, with $5 from every cake sold donated to CanTeen.

Tasmanian teacher Michelle Bosworth is one young person who knows first-hand the value of CanTeen and the services if offers. The 23-year-old has a rare and incurable form of blood cancer and was diagnosed when she was just 19.

“CanTeen changed my life; the support they provide has made my diagnosis liveable and has helped me make lifelong friends who truly understand what I’m going through,” Michelle said.

“There aren’t enough words to capture the gratitude I have for CanTeen but none of it would happen without support from organisations such as Wendys. So next time you head into your local Wendys, why not enjoy a delicious Three Wishes treat and know that you’re doing something positive for young Australians living with cancer.”

Michelle is responsible for the name Three Wishes – after winning a competition run by Wendys where CanTeen members across the country were given the chance to name the new flavour.

“The name Three Wishes came to me really quickly,” she said. “It works on a lot of levels – the swirls represent the different feelings you have when you are diagnosed and they represent the three things CanTeen does for young people living with cancer – support, develop and empower.

“Beyond that, it represents the many wishes all young people have when they are living with cancer. These wishes can take many forms but, ultimately, we all wish for one thing and one thing only.”
