May 27, 2012: Perth, Western Australia

The heart of New York’s culture is on its way here and Perth’s cultural scene is set to explode as the Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) welcomes the first shipments of artworks from New York’s esteemed Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).

Over one hundred pieces of inspired artworks from some of history’s most celebrated artists will be on display at AGWA, in the first of six exciting exhibitions coming to Perth as part of the partnership between MoMA and AGWA.

“To physically see the first piece of art arrive from MoMA was a special moment for the curatorial team," says AGWA Director Stefano Carboni.  "Years of planning became reality as we unpacked the first shipment to reveal the artworks. It gave us a small taste of the incredible pieces AGWA will have the honour of displaying at 'Picasso to Warhol: Fourteen Modern Masters' and I’m sure visitors to the exhibition will be delighted with the experience.

“This exhibition provides an opportunity for Australians to experience the rich history of the world we live in through the eyes of fourteen modern masters.”

Picasso to Warhol: Fourteen Modern Masters will launch on 16 June 2012. The exhibition features a dynamic selection of works created by celebrated artists including; Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Constantin Brancusi, Piet Mondrian, Fernand Léger, Marcel Duchamp, Giorgio De Chirico, Joan Miró, Romare Bearden, Alexander Calder, Jackson Pollock, Louise Bourgeois, Jasper Johns and Andy Warhol.
