NetSpot is pleased to announce that they will be partnering with the University of Wollongong to provide enterprise-level hosting and services of open source e-Learning systems: Moodle and Mahara.

The University of Wollongong joins the growing list of universities who use open source systems rather than proprietary systems. Sixteen Australian universities are now using Moodle at an enterprise level and there are nearly 60 million worldwide registered users.

NetSpot’s Managing Director and founder Allan Christie welcomes the University of Wollongong as another key academic institution into their close knit client community which includes Flinders University, University of New South Wales and Macquarie University to name a few.

“NetSpot staff work closely with our clients through all stages of the project, to deliver customised solutions that are tailored to meet our clients’ specific needs. Moodle is a premium and enterprise-level system that has been adopted across the Australian higher education sector. This management of risk combined with the flexibility of open source allows universities to confidently take control of their eLearning strategies. University of Wollongong’s choice of Moodle is further evidence of the premium level services that Moodle can deliver when combined with a trusted Moodle partner," said Mr Christie.

The decision for University of Wollongong to select NetSpot as their premium learning management provider followed an extensive evaluation involving staff and students from across the University.

“We are a large institution with a strong focus on innovation, working across regional locations within Australia as well as with our international partners. NetSpot has provided the most professional solution that promises to meet our requirements”, said Mr Peter George, Project Manager for the Learning Platform Project, University of Wollongong.

NetSpot’s enterprise level services for the University of Wollongong includes implementation, content migration, training, hosting, support and integration with their existing student systems. The new platform will also include Mahara, an electronic portfolio that will be available to all staff and students for professional development purposes.

Planning for the transition has commenced and the extensive upgrade will progress over the next 18 months.
