Game Three: ACT 0 vs SA 5 Australian U18 Women's Championships Newcastle International Hockey Centre, Broadmeadow Goalscorers SA: Emily Grist (6m); Eloise Sobels (14m); Alison Stock (18m, 34m); Courtney Rudd (22m)

South Australia came away with a convincing win against the Australian Capital Territory in their opening match of the Australian Under 18 Women's Championship in Newcastle. The SA team started the game with clear intentions, scoring all five goals in the first half.

Emily Grist opened the scoring in the 6th minute, with field goal passed ACT goalkeeper Kate Brown, who was left with little support from her defenders. Goals quickly followed every five minutes, with a penalty corner conversion from Courtney Rudd and a double from Alison Stock.

The ACT girls looked dead on their feet and half time couldn't come quick enough, but a rising speech from Head Coach Terry Evans sent a different team out for the second half, but couldn't convert scoring opportunities.

Bad weather late in the game made play untidy, but ACT had a last chance penalty corner opportunity in the dying seconds. However the SA defence continued to hold and was too strong to allow ACT a single goal.

From the second round, South Australia defeated Tasmania 4 to 1 and the match today saw another 4 to 1 defeat against the Northern Territory. So the SA team is undefeated thus far! A tougher match looks set for tomorrow at 3pm (EST) when SA will take on the host side, New South Wales.
