Brisbane Powerhouse presents Yann Tiersen

“Here was a man making electricity spark from an acoustic instrument before our very eyes ... His playing was enough to make members of his audience weep at its beauty.... and a lovely warm feeling envelops you as you head home.” Michael Hubbard, MUSIC OMH

If you enjoy the soundtracks to Ame?lie and Goodbye Lenin! and have a soft spot for critically acclaimed, multi-instrumentalist French musicians then don’t miss Yann Tiersen’s only Brisbane concert on Tuesday 10 April at Brisbane Powerhouse.

Yann Tiersen’s live show is Brisbane’s opportunity to experience one of France’s underground favourites who has been a musician his whole life – he played the piano at four, the violin at six and, upon smashing his instrument after years of classical training, started a rock band at thirteen.

After the band dissolved Tiersen created his own music using a cheap mixing desk, eight track reel and old records. He started using his own instrumental recordings instead of samples after realising that “instead of spending days on research and listening to tons of records to find the nearest sound of what I have in mind, why don't I fix this f**king violin and use it?".

Tiersen then went on to create his first two albums, before creating the soundtrack to international hit Ame?lie. He has since released five albums, toured internationally and composed soundtracks for Goodbye Lenin! and Tabarly.

Don’t miss this chance to see Yann Tiersen and his band (Robin Allender, Ste?phane Bouvier, O?lavur Ja?kupsson, Neil Turpin and Lionel Lauqerriere) perform their unique brand of mod-classical, experimental and post-rock music at Brisbane Powerhouse.

PLANET is the Brisbane Powerhouse dedicated world music and dance program. This project has received financial assistance from the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.
