Adelaide, SA -- The white band*, a global symbol of the fight against poverty, has been launched as an iPhone app at the Make Poverty History - Call to Action day in Melbourne's Federation Square (Sept 24).

The aptly named “Make Poverty History” iPhone app harnesses the convenience and global accessibility of the Apple iTunes App Store** to make it easy for people everywhere to donate micro payments to the global effort to banish poverty and hunger. iPhone and iPod Touch users are able to download the app for $0.99 USD from The App Store.

The concept was developed by James Hubbard, senior designer at Enabled Solutions, a South Australian multi-disciplinary creative firm that has already released several iPhone applications. All development time and costs were donated, allowing all proceeds to go to Make Poverty History.

“It’s hard for people to give much in the middle of the Global Financial Crisis, but those who are hit hardest by the GFC are those in extreme poverty,” said James. “If everyone gives a little though, it can make a huge difference.”

The Make Poverty History app allows users to support the fight against poverty and spread awareness with custom white band wallpapers on their iPhone or iPod Touch. It also connects them with ways to act.

“iPhones allow you to get whatever you want, video, games, internet access and so on whenever and wherever you want,” James said. “Why not use that same technology to help people?”
