ChildFund Australia is offering five passionate marathon runners the chance to secure a coveted place in the 2012 New York Marathon – all for an important cause.

Gaining entry into the world’s most sought-after marathon is not easy, with less than half of all applicants making the cut. By registering for a place through ChildFund Australia, you will avoid the lottery system for applications and get guaranteed entry to this event!

The ING New York City Marathon route runs through all five boroughs of New York City. Runners are cheered on by more than two million spectators as they weave their way through the streets of the Big Apple. Imagine your heart thumping as the gun fires and you take off from Staten Island! You’ll head through Brooklyn and Queens before crossing the Queensboro Bridge into Manhattan. The race then continues up First Avenue towards the Bronx before looping around to finish in world-famous Central Park.

Participants must each fundraise $10,000 for ChildFund Australia, plus cover their travel costs. Money raised will provide essential immunisation patrols for rural communities in Papua New Guinea, which could help save the lives of thousands of children.

Australia and Papua New Guinea are close neighbours, yet health conditions for children are worlds apart. Children in PNG die from preventable illnesses such as malaria, diarrhoea and respiratory disease. In fact, one child dies every 37 minutes. Your support will give children in PNG the best chance of celebrating their fifth birthday.
