If you are looking to one day be taken seriously as an Australian filmmaker you have to understand the business side of things. Your Youtube feature films will not pay the bills but good content and flawless business tactics can and will if you know what you are doing.

There are a couple of tools every indie filmmaker must have; of course the obvious things like a camera, editing software and a story to tell. But once the story has been recorded, edited and produced there is the challenge of distribution. This is where knowledge from experts such as the Film Collaborative, Jon Reiss and Cheri Candler will come in handy. They have written a book called Selling Your Film Without Selling Your Soul and in this book they compile case studies to give readers an overview of the distributing aspect of independent filmmaking. The authors have been called the “holy trinity” of indie films because they each bring their own expertise to the industry. Candler is a marketing specialist, Jon Reiss a highly acclaimed director and The Film Collaborative, a non-profit organization dedicated to the distribution of film; in my opinion there is no group more fit to give advice in this particular area of film.

From using social media to merchandising and everything in between this book will help you tailor a distribution plan to your film and career. Grab a copy today at
