As part of Leo Burnett’s ‘People with Impact’ series, staff and clients were treated to a thought provoking evening with Australian media legend, Ita Buttrose.

The ‘People with Impact’ series was designed to bring in diverse and interesting perspectives from outside our industry and provide an opportunity for our clients to meet each other. The last speaker, Wayne Bennett, challenged the notion of leadership and teamwork as he reflected on his outstanding career and the mistakes he has made.

“We asked our staff who they would like to hear from and Ita was at the top of that list. Ita has certainly lived an interesting and colourful life - I can't wait to hear what she has to say,” said Todd Sampson, CEO Leo Burnett Australia.

The youngest editor for The Australian Women’s Weekly to date; Ita has since been recognised with an OBE for her journalistic skills as well as earning her place as an Officer of the Order of Australia for her humanitarian efforts and securing a Centenary Medal for her leadership to Australian Society.

Ita Buttrose said, "Journalism is the most wonderfully unpredictable profession. You never know what the day will bring. It has allowed me to travel to the poorest of villages in Bangladesh to the hallowed rooms of Buckingham Palace where I had afternoon tea with Prince Charles' equerry. Through the magazines and newspapers I have edited I've been able to campaign for causes close to my heart and ones that have influenced our way of life in Australia."

The ‘People with Impact’ event will start with drinks and canapés followed by Ita sharing her experiences on how she became one of Australia’s most successful communicators.

Leo Burnett’s ‘People with Impact’ series will continue in 2012 with a diverse line up of inspiring people planned.
