The Northern Territory Agricultural Association and Muldoon Family were successful at the NT Landcare Awards, held at Parliament House in Darwin on Thursday night.

The NT Association took out the Australian Government Innovation in Sustainable Farm Practices Award. Chris and Marie Muldoon, who are also members of the Association, were awarded the Rural Press Primary Producer Award, for their innovative and sustainable practices in grazing management and pasture establishment.

The Muldoons run an intensive grazing operation at Douglas-Daly 250 km south east of Darwin. They are always striving to adopt new and innovative ways to run their 5000 ha property.

Achieving optimum production while improving the land resource is the ultimate objective. The Muldoons use cell-grazing, fodder legumes, pasture monitoring and minimum tillage practices to optimise pasture growth and utilisation, live weight gain and water use efficiency.

Fergal O'Gara from the NT Agricultural Association, accepted the award on their behalf, said the award is particularly satisfying given the difficult time the northern cattle industry has experienced recently. It is also pleasing that people like Chris and Marie and the industry in general, is recognised for their contribution to Landcare.
