Property is often seen as a long-term investment, where growth in value over many years ranks above short-term capital gain.

The latest issue of Your Investment Property magazine reveals the top 50 suburbs in Australia that recorded the highest average annual growth over the past ten years. Editor Nila Sweeney said these were areas to watch for prospective buyers and investors.

“We looked at the median price and average annual growth of suburbs around Australia and ranked the top 50 best performers looking at the whole ten-year period,” said Sweeney. “Annual growth is only one indicator of a property hot spot, but if you are looking to buy or invest, these suburbs could be a good place to start.”

Western Australia was a clear winner, taking up almost half the list with top-ranking suburb Djugun recording an impressive average annual growth rate of 34 per cent according to RP Data. The top 50 was evenly divided between metropolitan suburbs and regional areas.
