Leading magazine publishing bodies join forces for landmark event

Global publishing leaders will converge on Sydney in November for the inaugural Magazine Week, presented by the industry’s two peak bodies: Publishers Australia and Magazine Publishers of Australia.

Magazine Week (November 7-11) is attracting publishing professionals from across Australia and culminates in the annual Publishers Australia Excellence Awards, hosted by Adam Spencer.

Among the 40 expert speakers at the Magazine Week conference are Marie Claire editor-in-chief Jackie Frank, Priceline’s Marketing Director Amanda Connors, MindFood Publisher Michael McHugh and Allure Media managing director Chris Janz.

Australia’s leading media industry commentator, Steve Allen will deliver a keynote and the international contingent includes subscriptions analyst Alan Weaver (UK) and internet marketing guru Ryan Dohrn, CEO of Brain Swell Media (USA).

Participants will explore topics such as how to exploit social media, how to grow subscriptions revenue and the opportunities presented by new platforms such as the iPad and smartphones.

Publishers Australia chairman Geoff Hird said the intensive week of business development and networking reflects the industry’s intellectual and economic vitality.

“Magazine publishing is an evolving and vibrant industry that is focused towards our future,” he said. “Magazine Week is an exciting new event on the media calendar that will see the best minds in our industry gather to share insights, talk trends and delve into real-life case studies.”

Delegates will have the option to improve their skills at the FIPP digital publishing workshop, gain valuable insights at editorial, advertising and marketing workshops, visit the trade show and network with their peers.

“Magazine Week is relevant for all people and businesses in our broader industry,” said Publishers Australia CEO Claudia Sagripanti.

Magazine Week offers a full program of events:

• Two-day conference featuring international and local keynote speakers with afternoon streams for senior management in publishing, editorial and creative, production, distribution, circulation and subscriptions
• FIPP’s internationally renowned Digital Publishing Workshop
• Trade show exhibition featuring leading industry suppliers and service providers
• Networking events, including ‘Careers in Publishing’ hosted by the Young Minds Leadership Group and official welcome drinks
