Organisations are heavily focused on the level of security in the cloud or on mobile platforms. What organisations have not considered is application-level security. There are renewed calls for organisations to push for application-level security rather than the cloud or mobile platform environment. This type of security will solve such problems as data sovereignty and management.

“The best way to secure data is to apply different layers of security methods. Although each method is likely to have holes, the likelihood of those holes lining up to allow a security breach to occur diminishes as more layers are applied,” suggested Kareem Tawansi, CEO of software development provider, Solentive Software.

“These different security layers may encompass encryption within an application, database, and communication channels as well as physical and software security on network infrastructure.

“It is advisable that at a minimum, database encryption and application-level security should be applied,” concluded Kareem.
