Relief may be in sight for the Queensland and WA property markets, according to independent mortgage comparison website The July 2011 Your Mortgage Index compiled from user activity statistics shows an increase in buyer activity in the two states compared to 12 months ago.

Editor of Your Investment Property magazine Nila Sweeney said the Index results were indicative of current market trends.

“There are definite signs that the long-awaited second mining boom is starting to make its mark in Perth and the Queensland state budget has brought good news for first homebuyers,” said Sweeney. “In contrast, the Index shows buyer activity has fallen by 3.4 per cent in Victoria, where the market has been slowing since last winter.”

Data from, which attracts 150,000 visits per month, also showed an increase of 2.5 per cent in enquiries from first homebuyers and a similar increase in enquiries for introductory loans, which are the most popular for this demographic who typically need a higher loan-to-value ratio (LVR) than second homebuyers and seek to keep costs down over the term of their loan.

Your Mortgage has also judged approximately 1,000 mortgage products in its extensive database to find Australia’s best home loans for the 19th annual Mortgage of the Year Awards. Information about the winners is available in the newly released Your Mortgage Mortgage of the Year special edition.
