The University of Adelaide has risen in the prestigious international university field rankings, the 2016 Academic Ranking of World Universities by Broad Subject Fields produced by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

“We are delighted to have improved our ranking in what is arguably the key global ranking for higher education,” said Professor Warren Bebbington, Vice-Chancellor and President.

“In life sciences, we rose a remarkable 53 spots to be ranked 85th in the world.

“In engineering, we’ve risen 27 places to be ranked 102, and in science we’ve entered the top 200 for the first time at 172.

“University of Adelaide is now ranked in the top 200 in all five of the AWRU field rankings for the first time, one of only 5 Australian universities to get all 5.
“Overall, the University of Adelaide is ranked 139 after jumping 30 places in the institution rankings announced last month.

“It’s a great credit to the quality and depth of our research teams and the focus and dedication they bring to their work every day,” said Professor Bebbington.

The University of Adelaide is consistently ranked in the top 1% of universities worldwide.

Professor Bebbington said that while rankings provided a good indication of an institution’s overall standing, they offered little insight for future students considering where to study.

“Rankings capture only part of a university’s story. I would always urge people to be cautious before using them on their own as consumer advice,” he said.
