Twelve Willunga businesses have started a three-part series of workshops to prime their operations for making best use of the National Broadband Network (NBN).

Willunga is one of the first five communities in Australia being connected to the NBN, and the first in South Australia.

South Australia's Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology together with the Southern Success Business Enterprise Centre, City of Onkaparinga and Willunga Business and Tourism Association commissioned the series of marketing-based, technology-focused workshops as a pilot program involving 12 local businesses.

"We are working through three core areas," says program presenter, Steve Davis, marketing director of Patrick Baker and Associates.

"Firstly, we are investigating business efficiencies made possible through online technologies accessed via high speed, high capacity broadband.

"Next, we will be covering how to build and maintain an effective web presence which will lead to our final section on how to incorporate ecommerce technology economically and safely," he says.

Program participants will receive an audit of their current web marketing, five hours of one-on-one mentoring with Steve Davis, and a digital marketing plan. Further business advice and support will also be provided by SSBEC business advisors.

"This sort of program is something we have run nationally and have found it to be a very successful formula," says Steve Davis.

"DFEEST has long been innovative in finding ways to strategically support small businesses in their exploitation of new technologies.

"It would be good to see this latest initiative adopted within other NBN communities and among other Willunga businesses over time to really harvest the economic benefits made possible by this world class infrastructure," he says.
