School holiday care provider Swish Education has experienced a surge in demand for its holiday care programs as a direct result of the Federal Government’s changes to the Child Care Rebate.

“The big change is that the rebate, which covers 50% of out of pocket expenses, can now be paid fortnightly to customers or directly to the service provider” said Chief Executive Winifred Hanson.

“That means that families no longer have to wait to get their rebate refund, they get the cash straightaway. Most families, even those who are ‘well off’ struggle with extra expenses like school holiday care, and not having fund holiday care cash flow is making a really big difference”, said Hanson.

“We are surprised at the number of parents who know about the change, and we have seen a definite spike in demand for specialist education workshops in July”.

“The great thing about the Child Care Rebate is that it is available to every parent who works or studies, and does not depend on your income level. That means that if you are registered, you get 50% of your costs back”.

“Now that programs are more affordable, parents are no longer opting for the cheapest care, but are searching for meaningful, education based activities which means quality programs are doing better”.

“We hope the trend is here to stay, and parents will gravitate to programs like ours, which employ qualified primary school teachers, and structure activities in small groups for maximum learning”.

Swish Education runs hands-on workshops in areas like chemistry, robotics, portrait photography and cooking, aimed at primary school children, every day of the school holidays.
