The Tailor adds departures on luxury Lake Eyre-by-air package
With a second wave of floodwaters expected to arrive at Lake Eyre between now and September potentially making 2011 the best year to visit the region in 35 years, Australia’s premier luxury travel specialist The Tailor has added new departures on its Ultimate Lake Eyre itinerary to satisfy demand.
“This year is expected to be bigger than 2009 and 2010 and with slow-moving floodwaters from the Cooper Creek still forecast to reach the lake, this is expected to be the best year since the lake last filled in 1974-1976,” The Tailor Managing Director Drew Kluska says.
“There has never been a better time to see this part of the world: parched desert landscapes are now lush and green with patches of brilliant wildflowers while the waters have brought an explosion of birdlife. With water still to flow into Lake Eyre from the Cooper Creek, the coming months will be phenomenal.
“And the best way to see it all is with The Tailor. Our ultimate Lake Eyre holiday incorporates multi-million dollar aircraft, once-in-a-lifetime flights over the Lake, amazing local tour guides, gourmet meals and all the characters and colour the outback is renowned for.”
Departing Adelaide aboard a multi-million dollar aircraft (a Pilatus PC12 or B200 Super Kingair), the two day/one night Ultimate Lake Eyre journey takes passengers to the Flinders Ranges where they are met by local guide Ross Fargher.
After checking in to Ross’ award-winning Prairie Hotel, it’s time to enjoy a gourmet outback lunch before exploring Parachilna Gorge, Blinman and the spectacular Brachina Gorge, returning to watch the sun sink over the western plain before indulging in a Tastings Menu, renowned for regional produce and native cuisine.
Following a relaxing night’s sleep in one of the Prairie Hotel’s Deluxe rooms, travellers are taken on a spectacular aerial flight over Lake Eyre and outback landscapes, followed by morning tea at Birdsville and lunch at the iconic Innamincka Pub before boarding a plane for a scenic flight back to Adelaide along the eastern side of the lake.
Ultimate Lake Eyre highlights:
• Full Day air tour of Lake Eyre – north to south with 2 stops
• Morning tea and tour of Birdsville (Birdsville Pub, Flowing Bores and Working Museum)
