How two companies are using a competition to beat the competition, giving iPhone users a chance to win $2000 in prizes, including a 40" Samsung TV.
Adelaide, South Australia, June, 2011-- Australian companies, Gametraders and Enabled, released an iPhone game today with a competitive twist designed to get it noticed among the hundreds of thousands of apps on the Apple App Store.
Grant Hull, Director of Enabled, the digital media company behind the app’s development, said, “It used to be that if you developed a high quality app, you were likely to get noticed. But now there are no guarantees - it’s too easy for an app to get lost among the 350,000 others.”
It is for this reason Gametraders decided to try using the lure of competition in a novel way. The game, Mogo the Monkey, Operation Jungle Bungle, has been released with its own in-built competition, where Australians who complete the game, collecting all of the gold bananas, are qualified to enter a draw to win around $2000 in prizes, including a 40” Samsung LED TV, a Playstation 3, and a Gametraders Gift Card*. International entrants will be in the running to win an assortment of iTunes Gift Cards.
“The idea behind it is to give the app a chance to get noticed,” said Grant. “If we can just give it a jump-start to get the momentum rolling, the high quality nature and users’ enjoyment of the game should keep that momentum going.”
Mogo the Monkey, Operation Jungle Bungle represents the national game retailer, Gametraders’, first foray into game publishing. “With the game retail space populated by so many retailers, we wanted to differentiate ourselves,” said Rob Jenkins, National Marketing Manager of Gametraders, “game publishing offered us some interesting options to connect with gamers.”
The app is not the first Gametraders have released onto the iTunes App Store though. In 2010 they partnered with Enabled to launch the Gametraders utility app that allows game-lovers to keep track of their games and receive exclusive offers. However, Mogo the Monkey is a very different style of app; a puzzle adventure game packed with explosive fruit, a monkey on a mission, and a good old-fashioned arch nemesis.
Rob said, “We wanted the Mogo game to be fun and entertaining. I guess that's what every game publisher or developer wants to do. Our hope is that Mogo is a hit and allows us to develop more Mogo games, and perhaps allows us to venture into other genres.” Enabled and Gametraders will wait in anticipation to see if the clever competition helps the game rise to stardom. For Australians interested in winning a new TV, the app is available in the iTunes App Store.
