ONE partnership between MAX Employment and Westpac has reaped numerous benefits for South Brisbane and the greater Brisbane community.

A $25K contribution from Westpac Disaster Relief Fund has commenced an arrangement between MAX Employment, MAXIMA and Souths Leagues Club.

The project is an initiative of the Federal Government’s National Green Jobs Corps and provides practical work experience and personal development opportunities for unemployed persons in inner Brisbane seeking employment in the Horticulture Industry.

The project is hosted by Jobs Services Australia provider MAX Employment and RTO company Maxima, and consists of 20 local unemployed persons contributing to the repair and restoration of grounds, gardens and playing fields damaged in the Brisbane floods at Davies Park, West End (Souths Leagues Club).

With over half of the participants being clients of MAX Employment, Managing Director Mr Michael Hobday says of the project, “We place a strong emphasis on our community and National Green Job Corps projects to help transition our job seekers into employment.”

“The contribution provided by Westpac has helped to widen the scope of the project and fund such expenses as training and resources to give participants the very best opportunities in obtaining employment” Mr Hobday said.

The project sees the twenty participants involved with grounds maintenance, design, revegetation, renovating grassed areas, planting of native and drought tolerant trees, erosion control, prevention of ongoing damage to existing trees, landscaping activities and the provision of practical activities to care for the environment and cultural heritage.
Students graduate from the program with a nationally recognised Certificate II qualification in Horticulture, a first aid certificate and a Blue Card.

Ms Karen Hughes, Team Leader of the Westpac Queensland Flood Response Team is delighted to be involved with the community initiative that benefits job seekers, Souths Leagues Club and the wider community.

"We are thrilled to support a project offering so many benefits to our community" Ms Hughes said.

The project is taking expressions of interest from eligible job seekers. To register interest phone Sean Nicholson 0457 799 511.
