New York, NY:  The winners of The 2011 Communicator Awards have been announced by the International Academy of the Visual Arts today. With thousands of entries received from across the US and around the world, the Communicator Awards is the largest and most competitive awards program honoring the creative excellence for communications professionals.

The Winner for Best Film Video, Kristian Michail, is an 18-year-old Commerce / Law student from Melbourne, Australia who created his winning project as a part of his high school final year film program.

“The world around us is a complete object of beauty – but there lies danger with those things that are most beautiful.”

'Closed' is a confronting focus on the ability to see and touch happiness one day, and completely lose it the next. A film that illuminates the reality that struggle can either make or break us. Some become stronger through the hurt and pain, growing from it and using it to enhance the beauty around them; whilst others struggle as their dream of happiness disappears with every passing day - until one moment when their struggle continues no more.

No different to a line-up of dominoes, the first one falls, the rest follow – This dramatic projection of the demise of one man whose life spirals out of control and (like the dominoes) his inner control collapses with it – resulting in the ultimate tragedy!

The inspiration for my concept came from my interest in Ancient Greek theatre - In a sense I transformed my fascination for the likes of Sophoclean artistry into a contemporary adaption of traditional theatrical drama. The ancient philosophy remains, but the modern day influences of cinema is what makes it come to life", said Kristan Michail, director of “Closed”.
