One of the behind-the-scenes stalwarts of Australia’s exhibition and events industry has claimed ExpoNet’s inaugural Ian Stoker Award for Excellence in Customer Service.

Dale Mitchell was chosen from operations and warehouse staff across Australia to win the award, which was named in honour of former ExpoNet project manager Ian “Stokes” Stoker, who died suddenly in 2009 following four years with the company and 25 years in the exhibition industry.

ExpoNet’s Melbourne Warehouse Manager, Mr Mitchell was recently presented with a plaque along with a $1000 Westfield voucher.

CEO, Jim Delahunty said Mr Mitchell was a fitting recipient of the award as he shared Mr Stoker’s commitment and passion for his job and the exhibition industry.

“As the manager of our busy Melbourne warehouse, Dale has one of the most demanding jobs in the company, but it’s a role that he carries out with patience, resourcefulness and dedication,” said Mr Delahunty.

Launched in July last year, the Ian Stoker Award for Excellence in Customer Service was open to operations and warehouse staff who had been employed by ExpoNet for at least two years, and been recommended by either a client or senior ExpoNet employee.

Entries were judged in two stages, with the branch award winners announced at the beginning of the year and the national winner chosen from these three finalists.

Joining Mr Mitchell as branch winners were Ben Ridgeway in Sydney and Jamie Kristensen in Brisbane/Gold Coast.

Mr Delahunty said the award was an opportunity to not only honour the memory of Mr Stoker, but also recognise the unsung heroes working behind-the-scenes of Australia’s exhibition and events industry.

“We all get a chance to admire the finished results when the doors of an exhibition or event open, but it’s easy to forget there are hundreds of people like Dale working around the clock to make these events a success,” he said.
