Tablet PCs Support Water Rehabilitation and Clean-up Efforts Following January’s Flood Disaster

AUSTIN, TX and SYDNEY – May 11, 2011 – Motion Computing®, a leading global provider of tablet PCs and supporting mobility solutions, today announced that the company has made a donation of five F5 Tablet Computers to Queensland Urban Utilities to support crews out in the field as they tackled the region’s daunting water rehabilitation and clean-up effort after January’s flood disaster.

Motion’s Country Manager Australia/New Zealand, Brett Gross said that on watching television news coverage of the flood damage, the company realised it could make a very practical donation to support the clean-up effort.

“We knew that Queensland Urban Utilities already had 90-100 crews out in the field with the Motion Tablets, working long hours on assessment and rehabilitation and decided to donate another five F5 Tablets to provide more mobile computing resources for that unprecedented task ahead. They were surprised and very appreciative and we were happy that we could help in this pragmatic way.”

Queensland Urban Utilities continues to rapidly restore full treatment capacity at its wastewater treatment plants damaged in January’s devastating South-East Queensland floods, which severely impacted more than a third of its sewerage network.

In February and March, crews worked around the clock to repair damage at the flooded wastewater treatment plants. The work included re-establishing the necessary levels of microorganisms needed in the primary treatment process after the quantities were diluted or destroyed during the floods. From its total network of 333 sewage pump stations, 122 (or 37%) were damaged in the floods, with the organisation estimating the repair cost at around $55 million.

Already committed to mobile technology solutions, in 2010 Queensland Urban Utilities purchased 110 rugged Motion F5v Tablet PCs to upgrade the capabilities of its mobile field service crews.

Project Manager, Paul Tuckey said upgrading the Queensland Urban Utilities tablet fleet with the new Motion F5’s had improved the information flow to and from field crews, enhancing efficiency and customer service as crews receive and send job information electronically on their tablet PC.
