McCARDEL BONDI BEACH RECORD ATTEMPT STARTS 4AM EASTER SUNDAY.
60 laps (48 KMS) beach warm-up for English Channel triple crossing.

25 year old Australian marathon swimmer CHLOË McCARDEL’s attempt to set a new Bondi Beach and World Record will proceed as planned on Easter Sunday, scheduled to commence before daybreak at 4AM. While weather and sea conditions will vary throughout the day, Chloë and her team believe the conditions are as good as could be hoped for, and the attempt remains a suitable warm-up for her triple crossing of the English Channel in July later this year.

The current record for swimming laps at Bondi stands at 50, held equally by three individual swimmers, one being marathon swimming legend Des Renford. Chloë will beat that record by 10 laps, the total distance being just shy of half the distance she will need to swim when crossing the English Channel three times in July.

Chloë McCardel said, “I’m really excited that the conditions are in our favour to attempt this record at Bondi. The Bondi Surf Lifesaving Club is offering tremendous moral and logistic support. We’ve been planning this together for months and it comes at a critical time in my training for swimming across the English Channel three times non-stop in July”.

For her Bondi record attempt, Chloë is expected to be in the water for an estimated 13 hours, swimming 48 kilometres without fins, wetsuit or shark cage. In contrast, Chloë’s triple crossing of the English Channel will take more than 30 hours of swimming to complete. If successful, she will be the first Australian to complete a triple crossing of the English Channel, and one of only 4 swimmers worldwide.

On Easter Sunday, the public is welcome to follow her progress at the Bondi Surf Lifesaving club or via updates on Chloë’s Twitter, Facebook and Blog pages.
