Adelaide-based organic beauty company Abache has become the first Australian company – and the only non-European – to win a major award at the CosmoProf show in Bologna, the most prestigious event in the global skincare industry calendar.

Abache’s eco.kid organics for kids range won the International Buyers Love At First Sight award, selected from hundreds of exhibitors in the Natural Beauty Section of the show.

The Natural Beauty category includes certified organic, biodynamic, fair trade and ethical brands.

This is the second year that CosmoProf has dedicated an entire section to the emerging green beauty business.

Abache founder and CEO Peter Francis said that the award recognised the growing significance of organic skincare products and represents an industry trend towards chemical-free skincare.

“The industry is actively seeking to offer clean, green products that don’t just disguise symptoms but sustain skin health,” Mr Francis said. “We started marketing our eco.kid organic range four years ago after two years of development and it is already sold through distributors in 26 countries.“

eco.kid uses certified natural and organic, paraben free, sulphate free, synthetic free, readily biodegradable ingredients with no artificial preservatives, fragrance or colouring.

“Why is that important? Because children have no oily sebum barrier to prevent absorption through their skin,” says Mr Francis, who is a globally recognised trichologist and world master hairdresser.

“By sitting them in a bath full of regular bubble bath, you may as well be asking them to drink the product – that’s how absorbent a child’s skin is.”

Eco.kid doesn’t just keep kids healthily clean; using completely natural ingredients, it prevents the biggest bugbear of all for parents – headlice!

“Parents no longer have to feel guilty about pouring a chemical cocktail on to their kids’ scalps when they get the dreaded note home from school,” Francis says. “eco.kid products guard against and treat the condition.”

*Trichology is the study of follicles, which are found in different numbers across the entire surface of the skin and scalp.
