Tuesday, April 12th, 2011 - SA Media Awards
Finalists for the 2011 SA Media Awards are working in Port Augusta, Mt Gambier and everywhere in between.

The full list of finalists can be viewed at www.samediaawards.com.au. All finalists will be notified by mail.

“The number of media outlets represented this year is impressive and proves quality journalism is not just happening in Adelaide. We have never had such a spread of finalists in terms of geography and media outlets,” Advisory Panel chairwoman Shauna Black said.

The SA Media Awards is the only program which recognises excellence in metropolitan, community and regional journalism as well as the professionalfields of camera work and public relations.

The prestigious awards - which recognise professional excellence across 28 categories - will be announced at the 2011 SA Media Ball at the National Wine Centre on Saturday, May 7.

The gala event, to be hosted by award-winning Adelaide journalists Jessica Adamson (Channel 7) and Michael Smyth (Channel 9) are an initiative of the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance and encourage acommitment to excellence and ethics in journalism in SA.

Media Alliance Branch Secretary Angelique Ivanica said the awards were again fiercely contested with more media outlets than ever represented, including an increase in entries from rural and regional journalists and freelancers.

An advisory panel of senior SA journalists judged the silver and gold categories this year and the awards committee continues to work closely with the Walkley Awards.

As well as the SA Journalist of the Year, the awards recognise the State’s best young journalist, the leading print journalist, best radio and TV broadcasters, the cream of photography, as well as the best in commentary, analysis, opinion and critique.

The next generation of journalism hopefuls are also recognised with the Julie Duncan Memorial Award for Student Journalism.

Last year Sunday Mail investigative journalist Nigel Hunt was named Journalist of the Year, while the late Murray Nicoll was inducted into the SA Media Hall of Fame.

All finalists receive a complimentary ticket to the 2011 SA Media Ball, with additional tickets available at $95 for Alliance members and $105 for non-members. Contact Melissa McAllister on 1300 656 13 or [email protected] for tickets.
