A unique ‘Stay strong Christchurch’ BIC pen was launched today to raise much-needed funds for the NZ Red Cross Christchurch Earthquake Appeal. This uniquely designed red and black special edition pen displays a 'Stay strong Christchurch' message and is priced at $2 (including GST) with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the Appeal. The pen is sold exclusively by OfficeMax and is on sale now.

The fundraiser pen was the brainchild of OfficeMax employee Craig Argent who was writing a note with a branded pen, when he realised that everyone in New Zealand was looking for ways to help their Christchurch counter-parts, and that pens are used by everyone, each and every day.

OfficeMax then approached long-time partner BIC who jumped at the opportunity to support the cause. The pens are manufactured in the BIC Auckland plant and OfficeMax is promoting and selling the pens, both free of charge. Therefore the full amount of the sale (minus GST) will go directly to the NZ Red Cross Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.

“Pens are the source of messages but they can also carry a strong message, and ‘Stay strong Christchurch’ is our way of showing our solidarity” says OfficeMax Country Manager, Dean Butchers. “Pens are one of the most in-demand products for all of our customers; with this branding they can show their support for a worthy cause, as well as carrying this message around with them as a reminder of what has happened. By purchasing this pen, people are playing a part in getting Christchurch back up and running and they may even wish to write to friends or family in Christchurch, or write a donation cheque to the Red Cross too.”

‘Stay strong Christchurch’ pens can be purchased from any of OfficeMax's retail stores nationwide, online at www.officemax.co.nz or by phoning 0800 426 473.

Employing 700 New Zealand staff the organisation sells office supplies, technology and furniture through catalogue orders, the website’s OrderMax service and one of 18 nationwide retail stores (currently 17 are open for business due to the Christchurch earthquake.)

OfficeMax Global Head Office has donated US$10,000 to the New Zealand Red Cross and OfficeMax New Zealand will continue to work with customers to support their individual needs.
