Gift & Homewares Australia (GHA) members traded their shop fronts and fair stalls for the greens and fairways of Kogarah Golf Course on Friday, raising $5000 to support people living with epilepsy at the association’s annual golf day.

More than 75 players polished their clubs and teed off in the charity event, enjoying 18 holes of golf whilst raising funds for Epilepsy Action Australia.

“Scorecards aside, Epilepsy Action Australia was the clear winner on the day with $5000 raised to support the provision of specialist services for people living with epilepsy and other seizure disorders, their carers, families and the broader community,” said David Leek, Chief Executive Officer, GHA.

Guests at the golf day also heard from special guest speaker and former Socceroos captain, Paul Wade OAM.

One of Australia’s most decorated footballers with an Olympic Games and two World Cup campaigns under his belt, Mr Wade also has epilepsy and is an ambassador for Epilepsy Action Australia.

With fine food and drinks and a prize or two up for grabs, the golf day also provided an opportunity for players to network with fellow industry members, GHA staff and business partners.

For many the event was a chance to meet GHA’s newly appointed CEO, Mr Leek, who took over the top job for the peak association for the gift and homewares industry in February.

“The golf day was a terrific occasion for me to get to know our retailers and suppliers away from the hustle and bustle of the trade fairs and also for GHA to thank its members, staff and business partners for their ongoing hard work and support,” said Mr Leek.
