BE CAREFUL what you wish for – it might just come true.

That’s the underlying theme of Limelight Theatre’s latest production Lucky Sods, a satirical comedy about a family that has nothing on Friday and £2 million on Saturday.

Written by John Godber and directed by Gordon Park, the play follows an English couple who win the lottery and believe it’s the answer to all their problems.

But they soon find the grass isn’t greener on the other side, as their new-found wealth causes resentment, jealousy and greed from their family.

Park describes Godber as one of his favourite playwrights.

“I was attracted to the play because of its ’90s flavour, complemented by its ’80s and ’90s soundtrack,” he said.

“Like a lot of John Godber's plays, there are laughs aplenty but he doesn't let the audience off lightly.

"The term often used to describe his writing is bittersweet comedy and in this case it's certainly true.”

Involved in theatre for the past 25 years, Park came to WA in 1988 and has worked extensively with Limelight Theatre, as well as Marloo, Stirling, Playlovers and Old Mill Theatres.

He believes his biggest challenge with Lucky Sods is portraying the different locations and timeframes effectively.

“They need to be brought to life on stage using moods that will keep the audience captivated,” Park said.

“In this play, we look at the big question we've all asked ourselves: what would I do if I won millions of dollars?

“The results of the lottery win deliver both pathos and intense humour, which makes it a delicate and poignant comedy.”

Lucky Sods plays at 8pm, March 31, April 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 14, 15 and 16. Tickets are $18 adults, $16 concession.
