Light artists, designers and architects from across Australia are invited to respond to an Expression of Interest (EOI) to deliver creative, immersive and energy-efficient light and sound installations to feature in a nightly sculpture walk during the Vivid Sydney annual festival of light, music and ideas, from 27 May – 13 June 2011.
Co-curated by artistic duo Mary-Anne and Ingo Kyriakou-Bracke, the Vivid Light installations will transform Sydney’s iconic harbour-front precinct into an eclectic sensory experience, giving Australian lighting creatives the chance to have their sculptures shown alongside leading international design luminaries.
“We are looking for artists who can bring dynamic and engaging lighting concepts to Sydney’s well known public spaces in a way that uses minimal energy and encourages people to think more creatively about urban design and light,” said Mary-Anne Kyriakou-Bracke, co-curator of the light sculpture installations for Vivid Light.
“With Vivid Light set to attract creative industry members from all around the world, this is an excellent chance for Australian lighting artists to showcase their innovative aesthetics and latest technologies to the international design community.”
The theme for Vivid Light 2011 is Fiat Lux – Let there be Light and artists are also expected to consider the use of low-energy lighting techniques, public interaction and immersive artistic design. Vivid Light will be a free public exhibition nightly throughout the Vivid Festival.
EOI positions are available for Australian artists, designers, landscape architects and creative teams, including two positions for university student submissions and one position for an ‘emerging artist’ under 35 years old. Request for submissions include pavement, wall, façade and foyer treatments.
Successful applicants for Vivid Light will be offered design fees of up to $15,000 to cover design and conceptual work, construction, materials, delivery and installation.
Proposals for Vivid Light Artist EOI submissions close 5PM, Tuesday 1 March 2011. For full details on artist submissions and to receive an artist EOI form, please contact [email protected] or visit http://vividsydney.com/
